Integrated Care is Part of an Effective Treatment Program

Caption–Dr. Dan Boone, MD, right, is part of La Hacienda’s integrated care team.

Integrated care is one of the key elements for effective treatment of substance use disorders.

At La Hacienda integrated care involves the combination of treatments that patients receive.

Using a team approach, we integrate medical, psychiatric, therapeutic, spiritual, and nutritional care for each patient while they are on campus.

When possible, La Hacienda also works with a patient’s primary care physician.

Upon discharge, patients leave with a plan for structured, ongoing care, including referrals to professional assistance and 12 Step groups near where they will live.

Integrated care is especially important for individuals who have co-occurring illnesses that may hinder their ability to overcome a substance use disorder.

Integrated care is one of four components identified by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) as contributing to effective treatments that sustain recovery. The others are a strong community, a sense of purpose and leadership

Recovery Month is sponsored each September by SAMHSA. This year’s theme is “Join the Voices for Recovery: Invest in Health, Home, Purpose, and Community.”
