Lindsey Neill, DO
It’s not by chance that Dr. Lindsey Neill, DO, works in addiction medicine. Early in her career, she had to confront her own struggle with alcohol.
“After I got sober, I couldn’t help but think about transitioning to addiction medicine,” she says. “At the same time, I wanted my career and my sobriety to each independently stand on their own two feet first.”
She developed a solid foundation of recovery and started her career as a Hospitalist, managing acute medical conditions that required hospitalization, including complications related to substance use. She joined the medical staff at La Hacienda staff in March 2023 and hasn’t looked back.
Medicine and With a Musical Twist
A native of McAllen, Texas, Dr. Neill completed medical school at UNT Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine in Fort Worth and her internal medicine residency at UT Health Science Center in San Antonio.
What her patients probably don’t know is that she also holds a Bachelor of Arts in Music and sang opera in college.
Meet Patients Where They Are
Dr. Neill says being open and honest about her recovery gives her the opportunity to meet patients exactly where they are. “I love being able to say, ‘I have sat in that chair, and I know it gets better.'”
“It is a gift to work with patients during one of the most vulnerable periods in their lives. They have this incredible opportunity to completely change their trajectory. There is absolutely nothing more rewarding than sharing this sacred time with them.”
“The life I live today is a direct result of my recovery and applying recovery principles to everything I do. I could talk about it all day! Every interaction I have with a patient incorporates that foundation, and maybe it will help ignite a passion for their own recovery.”
